Holly picking trip - Saturday 16th December

Post by AKOfficer » Wed Dec 06, 2017 12:32 am

Hi everyone,

It's that time of year again to organise one of the best trips on the club calendar - our annual Holly picking trip :D . This year's trip will take place on Saturday, 16th December (so anyone planning to do the Turkey race the next day can use this as a dress rehearsal). We'll be heading to the Liffey, if conditions allow, to paddle from Sluice to the club.

We'll meet at 9.30 am at the club house to load boats on to a minimal number of cars traveling up to Sluice. The boat shed doors will be open at 9.30am and close at 9.45am, we will be on the road before 10.00am.

For anyone going directly to the get on, we'll meet at Sluice car park for 10.15am.

Afterwards the plan is for a get-together for paddlers, friends, and family that would like to join in from around 2pm in the Straw Hall Pub.

Club equipment (including wetsuits) is available for all new members who need some. Please post up if you need equipment (first come first served).

Please talk to each other about car-pooling as we get a large attendance for this trip and parking spaces are at a premium.

You should wear as a minimum for this time of year:
1. Adequate base layer thermals (no cotton)
2. Extra fleece/polyester over layers
3. Thermal socks & proper solid footwear
4. Wet suit
5. Dry cag
6. Paddling gloves or poggies are a great idea and a swimming cap too

Bring a warm drink in a flask and some food in your buoyancy aid for the trip down.

Please post up if you are coming along so we can get an idea of numbers. We expect to have plenty of leaders and rescue cover on this trip so at the moment there is no limit on numbers.

Finally, the tradition of seasonal decorating of boats (and paddlers) is long established; just make sure you don’t leave any of it behind in the river :o . There will be spot prizes!

See you on the 16th!

Count myself and Paul in for this. L2's with own gear. Have roof rack and space for two more so we'll meet at the club in the morning to organise car pooling.

Weather and water are looking good for Saturday, hope you are all busy decorating your boats (don't worry if you're not, you can always "borrow" some decor on Saturday  ). Sign up if you haven't already so we can gauge numbers.
